Change of Plans
Well, we had an unexpected change of plans & canceled our hill country trip for the weekend. We did still manage to get our boat on the water for a quick fossil hunting excursion near home, and we’re still going dancing tonight for our 1-year wedding anniversary :)
As usual, our fossil hunting adventures tend to throw us some curve balls. Luckily, we did what my husband suggested & took our little boat UPSTREAM from where we put in. I had wanted to explore downstream, but when our motor gave us trouble ten minutes into our boat ride, I was very happy we followed his plan! We made the best of the situation and paddled over to a nearby sandbar to do a little fossil hunting before drifting our way back downstream to the truck.
We found a few interesting pieces of bone, a big old, fossilized horse tooth, several more pieces of petrified wood to add to my husband’s collection, and lots of pretty rocks to polish in my rock tumbler.
The coolest find on this trip was the fossilized bone on the left. It is a horse foot bone. We found the bone on the right on a different fossil hunting trip. It is a horse toe bone (I know, horses don’t have toes - but they do & did have toe bones!).
The two bones fit together perfectly!
I was pretty proud of this fossilized tooth (pretty sure it is a horse tooth) I found - It could be thousands or millions of years old!
We got to add some new pieces of petrified wood to the collection :)
And we found lots of interesting rocks to put in the rock tumbler. I love to see them all polished and shiny. I keep a “candy bowl” of polished rocks on a table in the living room.
